The Chamber Orchestra of Barrington at St. John’s will celebrate its 10th Anniversary with a memorable concert on Sunday, October 4 at 3:00 in St. John’s Episcopal Church in Barrington.
Led by Maestro Luis Viquez, the concert will feature three acclaimed soloists, violist Boris Vayner, violinist Alla Aranovskaya, and violinist Alexey Shabalin, whose artistry and virtuosity will add a distinctive dimension to the milestone celebration. Boris Vayner and Alla Aranovskaya are members of the internationally recognized St. Petersburg String Quartet. Alexey Shabalin is the Music Director and Symphony Conductor of the RI Philharmonic Youth Orchestras, a member of the RI Philharmonic Orchestra, and a URI faculty member. The program opens with the world premiere of Phantasos, a piece written by Kari Juusela, a cellist in the orchestra. It was commissioned as part of the 10 th anniversary celebration. Following will be Aaron Copland’s John Henry: A Railroad Ballad for Orchestra to honor the 250th anniversary of the USA. The three guest soloists will take the stage for the closing pieces. Alla Aranovskaya and Alexey Shabalin will perform in J.S. Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins in D minor BWV 1043. Shabalin will then join Boris Vayner for Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola in E flat Major, K. 364. The concert also marks the second year of Music Director Luis Viquez’s tenure as conductor, following the chamber orchestra’s founding and its first decade of growth under Dr. Ed Markward. Maestro Viquez is continuing the tradition of artistic leadership while guiding the orchestra into its next decade. Admission is free; pay-what-you-can donations are welcome.
