![]() The Chamber Orchestra of Barrington at St. John’s, led by Music Director Edward Markward, will present the third concert of its season on Sunday, February 16 at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 191 County Road, Barrington. The program features trumpet soloist, Joseph Foley, Principal Trumpet of the RI Philharmonic Orchestra, in F.J. Haydn’s beautiful Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major. The orchestra opens the concert with Mozart’s delightful Overture to “Le Nozze di Figaro” and concludes the concert with Mendelssohn’s melodic classic, Symphony No. 4 in A Major (Italian). Comprised of 36 professional, community and student musicians from Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts, the ensemble was created to showcase the extensive variety of music in the chamber orchestra repertoire. The orchestra is hosted by St. John’s Episcopal Church and Jacob Stott, its director of Music. The program features works by two of history’s most beloved composers, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Franz Joseph Haydn. The Serenade in C major (for Strings) is one of Tchaikovsky’s most popular works, and Haydn’s Symphony No. 103 in E-flat major (“The Drumroll”) is the penultimate of his twelve “London Symphonies,” his last works in symphonic form. Comprised of 36 professional, community and student musicians from Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts, the ensemble was created to showcase the finest quality music in the chamber orchestra repertoire. The orchestra is hosted by St. John’s Episcopal Church and Jacob Stott, its director of Music. The concerts are free, but donations are welcome. Season 3 Opening Concert: Sunday, September 29 at 3 p.m.
The Chamber Orchestra of Barrington at St. John’s, led by Music Director Edward Markward, will present its third season’s opening concert on Sunday, September 29 at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 191 County Road, Barrington. The featured work on the program is Georges Bizet’s spirited Symphony in C, composed when Bizet was only 17 years of age. Also on the program are Tomaso Albinoni’s beloved, Adagio for Strings and Organ, a work actually composed by Remo Giazotto from themes by Albinoni, and Leo Delibes’ Le Roi s’amuse, which is a suite of dances from incidental music to Victor Hugo’s play of the same name. Comprised of 36 professional, community and student musicians from Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts, the ensemble was created to showcase the finest quality music in the chamber orchestra repertoire. THE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA OF BARRINGTON AT ST. JOHN’S—Spring “Open House” Concert
Members of The Chamber Orchestra of Barrington at St. John’s (COBSJ) will perform a free concert of chamber music at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, June 7, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM. The program will be the culmination of the ensembles from the 3rd season (2019-2020) under the baton of conductor Edward Markward. The format will be an informal “open house” setting. The public is invited to attend for as long, or short a period of time as they wish. Members of the orchestra will perform in a variety of musical combinations throughout the afternoon: string quartets, duets, quintet, trios and other instrumental combinations. At the conclusion of each segment, musicians will be available to chat with audience members. Refreshments will be served throughout the afternoon. In August 2017, The Chamber Orchestra of Barrington evolved from a shared vision by friends and musical colleagues to create an ensemble of the highest caliber musicians to perform some of the greatest works in the classical repertoire. Starting in September 2019, the Chamber Orchestra of Barrington at St. John’s will begin its third season under the leadership of conductor Edward Markward. |
